Male arrested for drugs offences and money laundering.

I wanted to share a piece of work conducted by the community safety unit. Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle parked in the general area of White Willow Close, Ashford. . A man inside gave inconsistent explanations about why he was there and who the car belonged to. Officers researched the vehicle and saw that it had previously been linked to suspicious activity.

A search was conducted of the vehicle under S23 of the misuse of drugs act and officers found nearly £3,000 in cash, an amount of cannabis and a large quantity of illegally imported cigarettes. He was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and possession of cannabis.

A further search at a nearby address uncovered several thousand pounds more in cash and a significant amount of illegally imported cigarettes and tobacco, believed to be worth around £15,000. The man was further arrested on suspicion of evading excise duty.

He has been bailed whilst enquires continue. We are committed to keeping our community safe. If you see anyone acting suspiciously please report this to police.
